The Betacam SP range was manufacture in three distinct generations.
The first generation of BVW Broadcast machines comprised of four models, ranging from a basic 4 channel (2 linear and 2 hi-fi tracks) audio player to a full feature, dynamic tracking studio edit recorder. Nearly every broadcaster in the world adopted the Betacam SP BVW range as it’s core video format.
The second generation of PVW Professional machines comprised of three models; a simple player, a dynamic tracking player and a studio edit recorder. All of the machines in this range were capable of linear audio only. but fitted the same mechanical foot print of the earlier BVW range.
The final generation of UVW equipment were designed and marketed as budget range, of simple players and recorders, the noticeable difference was the lack of front panel edit controls, these machines became a firm favourite combined with non linear edit systems.
